Hello im looking to try and use a top screen from an original ds for a project on another handheld console.
What i am looking for is really info on the ribbon cables.
Had no idea where to find any info on this.
Im looking for info on where the parts of the ribbon cable lead to
Also the smaller cable attached is that the power cable?
Also what sort of power is needed in order to power up the screen?

Know this is not typical info that most would know but any help would be useful to me.
Especially if anyony has any diagrams of this then that would be extremily helpful

Thanks

http://nocash.emubase.de/gbatek.htm#pinoutslcdcables has a tiny bit.

The screen capture mods might have something more, though with most of those being commercial applications they might not be as open as they could be.
http://home.comcast.net/~olimar/DS/jumbotron/ was the original and has a little bit more.

For the record as well most of the electronics suppliers will sell you nice small screens (even some OLED ones), several mobile phone screens have been fully reverse engineered with nice libraries made and several will be better than the 256x192 screens the DS family uses.
https://www.sparkfun.com/categories/76?page=all has some aimed maybe at what you want, that said there are things like https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9170 on it so hey.

Really appreciate all the info. Will look through it properly a little late and see if i can do something with it.
A different screen may be a option. Obviously im limited by certain space to fit it into a different console.
It was maily the wiring up and providing enough power to opporate it also.

Thanks again

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
