Gaming Sonic Mania Plus XCI runs the normal game

As stated, I downloaded 2 different Mania Plus xci files but for whatever reason, when I run the game it boots normal Mania instead. I used Super Mario Odyssey as a donor if that has something to do with it.

Maybe you should back up your Mania Plus instead of your Mania game.

Isn't there any solution to play Mania Plus on LayeredFS besides paying 40 bucks for my Switch to get the possibility of being bricked if a code triggers?

Brick stuff was removed in 1.3. Either pay for SX OS (it's not $40) or wait for a free CFW that has sig patches.

Looks like I can't install Plus on LayeredFS then. I will pay the 5 dollars for the PS4 DLC then but I really wanted the handheld version. Thanks anyways!

It's because Mania Plus contains vanilla Mania as an NCA, the Plus content is in another NCA which can't be extracted as far as I can tell

I have the same problem. The best I manage to do was to apply the update on Sonic Mania with the following steps:
- Extract with "XCI-Explorer" the 3 following files: "789c76ada44493dab9680bb12e6028dc.nca" (base game), "e20678a0c8f171cdb2244ed88be48637.nca" (update) and "01009aa000faa8000000000000000004.tik" (contains titlekey required for update apply)
- For LayeredFS game conversion, create a folder named "Sonic" then execute the command: hactool.exe -k keys.ini --romfs="Sonic\romfs.bin" --exefsdir="Sonic\exefs" "789c76ada44493dab9680bb12e6028dc.nca"
- Get titlekey from "01009aa000faa8000000000000000004.tik" at offset 0x180
- For update apply, execute the command: hactool.exe -k keys.ini --titlekey=XX_Gotten_Before_XX --basenca="789c76ada44493dab9680bb12e6028dc.nca" --section1="Sonic\romfs.bin" --exefsdir="Sonic\exefs" "e20678a0c8f171cdb2244ed88be48637.nca"
- Delete files "subsdk1", "subsdk2" and "subsdk3"

The "Plus" mode activation is maybe in another "nca" file from the "xci" dump. Someone have an idea?
