During a Sonic the Hedgehog panel at the gaming convention SXSW, SEGA announced that Sonic Mania would be getting delayed from its "Spring 2017" release date, down to sometime in Summer 2017. The delay is due to SEGA and the game's development team wanting more time to "meet quality standards". To compensate for the delay, a new trailer for the game was released, showcasing Flying Battery Zone from Sonic & Knuckles. Sonic Mania will be launching for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Id rather have something closer to sonic 3 in quality than Sonic 06.

That said, it would be nice to have a publicly available demo.

I'm not sure why people keep asking about a physical copy. Like, the collectors edition comes with a metal plate with the download code and they've been taking preorders since last year. If it was going to be physical, wouldn't they have already put the physical copy as part of the collectors edition? Doesn't make sense to me that the special copy would be digital and then they'd release a physical copy on the side? That would piss a lot of people off who have their preorders set (like me) and would love to switch to a physical copy. It just doesn't make sense for them to do physical.


On the other hand, while I wanted it in the next few months, hopefully this will make sure the game is 100% ready to go and not need Day 1 Patches. I trust Christian Whitehead.

@LuigiXHero Well I know Taxman and Stealth did the Sonic 1. 2. and CD port. I bought Sonic CD around Christmas last year and I love the constant 60FPS and all the bugs they fixed. I know they did some ROM hacks but that's what I know. I hope Sonic Mania becomes a great game.
