001 means it detected you're on a dvd-recordable, which means you have to update your modchip (or patch the iso to remove the 001 error, search the forum how)

ok new error i put the patchd disc in and it says "system files corrupt" as soon as i put it in!! what have i done????

i get this problem too... but it's solved now.
try to modify the other games like SMG.... replace the update in SMG, and after update, then try to play MKWii .

Hello
i have 3.1J and D2CKEY and when i run MK / UC , i again get black screen /lock up problem.
how can i replace super mario galaxy update to Mario Kart???

Hmm. I got Mario kart working on my JAP wii (don't know which chip, since i bought it secondhand and didnt think that was necessary at that time:/).

I also got SSBB to work, though only a JAP version, first this one gave me "error code 001" but i fixed that with trucha and generic wii patcher.
Tried fixing a english version of SSBB but that one is giving me blackscreen also some other games like Naruto, Okami, Mario party 8, Paper mario.

Burned on DVD+R Traxdata, imgburner speed 2x.

any concrete instructions?
Have read this post, tough it didnt help :/

Hey Dunchen,

I have a Japanese Wii with 3.2J update and a PAL copy of Mario Kart. When I insert the game, theres a strange screen that comes with Japanese language and the only option with an OK button. Afraid of brickblocking, I switch off the console and have not played MK till now. Will MK work on a 3.2J with D2Ckey? And what will happen if I press OK, does MK feature an update or it will just add a channel?

Thanx in advamce.

Ok. I got it sorted out. You will need the following programs/files.

- WuM (Wii Update Manager) *Google it. It is easy to find*
- A raw dump of 3.1J_V2/3.1U_V2 (Depends on which region your Wii is from)

1) Place the raw dump of 3.1J_V2/3.1U_V2 in a folder call "dumps". The folder is created when you first launch WuM.
2) Open up the UNMODIFIED ISO of Mario Kart Wii with WuM.
3) Click "READ INFOS".
4) Click "ANALYZE RISK". It will probably tell you that you need to brickblock it because its from a different region.
5) Under "Replace with". Select your region's update. Either 3.1J_V2 or 3.1U_V2.
6) Click "REPLACE". *DO NOT BRICK BLOCK IT!*
7) Just to be safe, reload the ISO you just MODIFIED and click "READ INFOS" and "ANALYZE RISK". This time, it should say that it is safe because the update is the same region as your Wii.
7.5) Some of you may need to RegionFrii it. (I did not do this step therefore I am not sure if it will affect the overall outcome.)
8) Burn the MODIFIED ISO.
9) Insert into your Wii. It will prompt for an update. LET IT UPDATE. IT IS SAFE because you have already switched the UPDATE with the UPDATE of your region! Therefore be VERY SURE you replace it with the update of your Wii region.
10) After finishing the update, load Mario Kart Wii from channel... Everything should load fine and you are ready to go =)

Tested with Jap Wii running firmware 3.2J. D2CKey.

Thanks to everyone that helped me. Hope this help somebody.
Credit also goes out to the creator of WuM. Awesome program! =))

I got a pal version of the game (scrubbed), and also a pal system. I ran brickblocker with the patch.iso file that came with brickblocker (am I supposed to replace that with something?) anyway, I get a blank screen when running the game.

I have a PAL system, with a d2ckey.

This is a rather good page to look at when making changes to games of another region. So far it works perfectly for me. Hope it does so for you too.

I'm not sure what Japanese characters you saw but if there was "??", it means update. I'm not sure whether Mario Kart PAL has a higher firmware than 3.2, but to be on the safe side, follow the instructions shown on the following page.

I maybe wrong but shouldn't it be safe to run a PAL version of any games on a PAL console? I don't see a need to brickblock the game?
