Hacking Softmodding hazards?

Me and my pals all have wiis, but I'm the only one who knows about softmodding and such. After learning that I got those games that they bought for $30, they want me to softmod their wiis as well. My question is, can they do something to render their wii unusable (not saying the B word!) if they don't do anything besides running games?
