Hacking Soft reset for homebrew

Is a way to patch a homebrew ROM so that it works with soft-reset?

Or a custom R4 firmware?

if you have an original r4, and r4i gold (.cn), or an r4idsn, you have a hb softreset option in the wood kernel. homebrew menu supports resetting back to the menu, but i think the software may need to implement something first.

I was wondering that too, my R4 only soft-resets on commercial games. Does anyone have any idea why it works like that?
