Emulation Snes9x won't work

Hi there...I'm in a bit of a pickle. here is my system and what i've done so far:
Wii U on 5.5.3
Changed the DNS entries to block updates.
Installed homebrew channel using web exploit then the haxchi as a forwarder channel.
Loaded retroarch and installed Snes9x 2005, then Snes9x 2010 because I couldn't get them work.
I tried loading SNES Roms on the SD card as a *.sfc file but when I load it nothing happens and it just brings me back to the homebrew channel.
What am I doing wrong? Did I miss a step? I would really like to be able to show these games to my kids.

It looks like the problem is the roms.

All of my roms are ".smc" and they work just fine.
There are lots of online converter programs.
Just google: "sfc to smc converter" and pick the first one that comes up.

Also are you trying to play rom hacks? If you're just trying to play mainstream SNES titles you should have no issue. So long as they are ".smc"
There are some rom hacks that have a number of issues on SNES9x, some wont even load up
