I just had a quick blast on goldeneye 007 on my acekard, and it seems very sluggish compared to the videos on youtube. could my micro sd card be the blame as it isn't transferring data quickly enough to the card
It may be a bad or crappy microSD. What brand and speed class is it?

Check with another ROM. If that's not it then the card is most likely the problem.
I had the same problem with Goldeneye and KH 358/2 days. Different card and they were running smoothly.

Try a smaller capacity card too.. I have an otherwise perfectly fine 8 gig card, but sometimes it gives me issues - loading the game on a lower quality 2 gig card and it's better.
One game this happened with was Pokemon Platinum - mainly using menus when I had a lot of items.
