Hacking Skylander games

Is it possible to play these games without figurines? I heared that if u have 2, u don't need the accessory anymore after using it once and u can play all levels?

Would there be save games of people having unlocked this?
Maybe even more figures?

And do I need figures for every skylander game?
Skylander Spyro adventure
Skylander swap force
Skylander Giants
Skylander Trap team

Or is there some kind of workaround with all the hacking going on nowadays with 3ds?
And if not, which figures would I exactly need for which game?

You need 2 things to play a Skylanders game, on every console :
- figurines (compatibles with the game : Swap Force fig. works for Swap force game and newer, etc.)
- the portal (which read the NFC chipset inside the figurine)

The portal is the same for every console like XB360/One, PS3/4 Wii and Wii U.

But 3DS and tablets have a different portal because they don't have USB port.
So... you might buy a used portal and used figurines to play even a ROM on a 3DS...

As a 7 years old son owner of about 60 figurines... I know about those things

Hhmm ok that is a bit too vague, I heared the newer ones aren't backwards compatible portal, aswell as figurines. And you only need a certain amount and type of figures to unlock the basic game? (not sure if true for all?)

I just hope this is solveable with a save from someone or rom hack/save edit?

The portals are very similar but not the same and are not interchangeable on other consoles. They have different USB device IDs and don't speak quite the same protocol over USB serial.

No. The console PS3/PS4/Wii/Wii U versions of all the games share the same portal.

Only the 360 uses a different portal (at least with spyros adventures portal)

You only need 1 figure for the console version but you need 2 for the 3ds version. (maybe 1 might work? Never beat the 3ds ones)

Green bottom = works on all every skylanders game
orange bottom = works on all except spyros adventures
blue bottom = works on all except spyros adventure and giants
red bottom = works ONLY on trap team

There is one exception to this rule

Ok cool so tell me the cheapest 2 I have to buy to get these ALL these games working?

I heared the portal of the newest game trap team doesnt work for the other skylander games. Is true or not?
Are the figurines universal compatible? Console and handheld?
