Homebrew Skins for Moonshell 2/YSmenu Combo

Love the skins - just a couple of quick questions though

I'm finally upgrading to a M3i Zero (waiting for delivery now), & as you know - that uses Sakura (which is based on Moonshell)

I've read that Moonshell 2 skins DON'T WORK with Sakura - & I'll REALLY like to have a few of these on the M3i Zero

my questions are
- Are Moonshell 2 skins not compatible with Sakura ? (I'm guessing the filenames are different or something like that)

- If not, any chance of having just the graphics you've used in your skins in a downloadable file, so I can 'make my own' (I assume that Sakaura has it's own Skin maker software) - I'll can then add/alter whatever needs to be done myself ? (or are your graphics 'copyrighted' & afraid some1 may 'steal' them ?)

- If you ARE scared of 'copyright infringement', would it be possible to PM you & get them sent 'direct' to me on condition that I credit you in any I post publicly, I'm willing to add a copyright like '@ janouis 2009' (sorry don't know how to do a 'copyright' symbol) in one of the corners of the wallpaper graphics

- If you not willing to do either a downloadable file or PM graphics to anyone, would it be too much to ask for you to make 'Sakura compatible' version of your skins ?

Sakura also has Skn files, but some filenames and composition are different. There are also some different files such as the colorbtl.ini and MP3 controls.

sorry i can't gve u the skin graphics... intead i will make a m3sakura version of all my skins..

i hope u understand cannonfoddr.. i'd downloaded the m3i zero skin tester.. there are some filename and graphic sizes that are different from moonshell 2... to start with.. i made a version of FFXII: Revenant Wings skin for m3 sakura... it took me 2hrs to convert it into m3sakura skin... all the graphics are edited..only the time & date is left... can someone test it if it's working?... b4 i proceed on the other skins..tnx...

Yep I fully understand - even I wouldn't want to do all these graphics/skin's & then let anyone else copy them & possibly claim them as their own work (that's why I mentioned the 'adding a copyright' to the graphics) - thought I'd ask anyway just in case you did allow it - then it'll take some workload off of you

Oh... One suggestion (but I bet you're gonna do it anyway) - If everything does work out OK, how about a separate thread just for Sakura skins ...

[ Who know I may just try to do some skins myself when I get it

- I'm no good with making graphics but I bet there's plenty of royalty free stuff on the net I could use/modify for use]

yeah it is hard to convert it into sakura bec some of the icons in sakura are not in moonshell 2...maybe i'll ask a mod to changed the topic title to Skins for moonshell 2/m3 sakura..

there are some filename and graphic sizes that are different from moonshell 2 to start with..

Because of what Janouis has mentioned - it got me a little curious on what are the differences between Moonshell & Sakura skins are - so I downloaded compared the 'default' skin of Moonshell with Sakura's 'default' (Found in the 'Skin tools' folders of each program)

My preliminary investigations has come up with the following info:-
1) Moonshell uses 138 graphics in it's skins compared to Sakura with 158
2) There are 17 Graphics in Moonshell that don't exist in Sakura
3) There are 42 Graphics in Sakura that don't exist in Moonshell, 8 of which are duplicates but twice the size
4) You can rename 9 graphics in Moonshell so that they can be 're-used' in Sakura
5) There are 8 graphics in Moonshell that have a different size to the 'same named' graphics in Sakura. 6 of which only require a slight 'cropping' to be of use

So based on this it looks like poor Janouis has to create 42 new graphics, Delete 17, Rename 9 & Alter 8 just to convert from Moonshell to Sakura

Makes you think of all the hard work he puts into these skins & it makes me ashamed for asking in the first place

I just wish I was a programmer then I would've tried creating a program that would've automatically:-
> Deleted unused graphics
> Renamed the appropriate files
> Have a basic cropping tool to resize the 6 needing cropping

Seems like Janouis has made sooooo many skins Photobucket can't keep up

Perhaps Janouis (or someone else - since janouis is too busy making skins

) could instead make youtube 'slideshows' of each the skins & he could use those instead

- I might even try that myself (when I get home) just to help out

Oh hang on - I need the graphics first to be able to do the slideshow, perhaps I can get an emulator to run Moonshell on a PC & do it that way

Moonshell will not work on an emulator. (I tried, didn't work. Oh, and janouis, there is a way for you to test it. You can just use the M3 Sakura DLDI version. Here: http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=91231 If you get it to work, Oh, if you wan't I can give you a really awesome website for uploading images.

It's fast (batch uploading) and it's simple. It suits me but try it.

It'll take some time but maybe you can upload it all to another place. (it takes long to get all from URL's so did you save all the images to your computer?

Dam - I was hoping it would. It's a shame no-one's figured out how to do a Moonshell/Sakura 'skn' viewer (there's a couple of Sakura one's but they need to use the actual graphics & doesn't use skn file)

I guess there's no chance the developer will create one or allow people to know the file structure of skn files, otherwise a lot of people will be 'extracting' the graphics from skn & using them as their own

yeah... i save all the screenshots to my computr.. i'll try it some other time..it will take a while to restore all the screenshots of my skins bec. it's too many of them.. sigh
