That probably had nothing to do with running the exploit. The exploit only runs in ram and as far as I know nothing on the NAND gets modified. Smealum did something, but the brick wasn't from just running the exploit.

When you can read your NAND (Gateway's NAND Backup Feature), is it too far-fetched that you could also write access it? Some little bug in GW Software aaaand brick...

I might be alone in this but i dont usually switch around between playing ds games and 3ds games all that often ^^

No I am with you all the way....DS is pretty much dead to me....lol. Really last think I played was SMT Devil Survivor 2 and that was more than a year ago. The DS part of the Gateway hack seems incredibly stable/persistent in that I have not had to reload it in months since getting my Gateway. I rarely even power down unless I am goign to take the 3DS SD card out to backup my saves or take a long trip and want to save battery life. Really activating Gateway takes all of about 10 seconds to go into setting and his the DS profile button.....its a pretty darned slick hack for a 1st generation deal.

If you are controlling the actions and have kernel access, it would be relatively easy to brick, hence why gateway take forever and vigorous testing, when running their software i doubt much chance of a brick ever, as you have no say over what it does

To brick they would have to write to the nand, they dont need to do that anymore -> win.

You do not need to wait for Gateway 2.0, even 1.2 works with most games and works awesome enough.

and how does that relate to the gateway?

Because he is doing exactly what they did. He made a redirected NAND on the SD card, and he did that while installing the necessary files on the 3DS. The launcher file has to be small, so it's not unlikely that the update will require something on the 3DS. The exploit allows complete kernel access, meaning complete full control. The Gateway as well writes to the 3DS anyway with saves, as what I believe it does is it writes the save to the 3DS, and the home, close thing moves it to the SD from the 3DS, and even that would have to be beta tested so it couldn't fuck up.
