To know the exact answer to that question, read the t+c of your warranty. If you're sending it in to repairs outside of warranty, they'll likely not care.

When you say the speaker isn't working, do you mean an inbuilt one, an external one, or just the audio jack?

EDIT: All Vista drivers are Win7 compatible, I believe.

Most likely they will not mind what OS your computer is running, but if you're going to send it in anyways you may as well re-install the default, legal OS

If he is sending it for repairs under some kind of warranty scheme, then having a pirated OS may render the warranty void (since piracy can be perceived as "harmful", making it your fault that it doesn't work). If there's no warranty, you're just paying for it to be fixed so they won't care either way.

But the rest of the advise stands: if you are worried, back up your data and take the safer option of reinstalling Win7 (no need to return to Vista). When you get it back, you can use whatever means you wish to bypass activation. Personally I recommend just getting the licence, but I won't judge you either way.

Another option is to remove the HDD. They don't need it to fix the problems you've been having.

DVD drive problems are the easiest to fix - a replacement costs just over £10, and you usually get a better one than before (since the market cycles through models every 6 months or so). Integrated speakers are more difficult, since it could caused by anything from a broken magnetic coil, to a torn fabric, to a simple connection falling out (usually the latter). Before sticking it in, you can try opening it up and seeing if you can find the speaker connections. If not (or you're just not experienced enough) you can go ahead and stick it in.

Remove WAT instead
wink.gif

That`s virtually true.

WAT in XP indeed remove every activation/validation program, and leave windows clean.

Windows 7`s authenticate key system`s completely different from before, so even if you remove WAT, you won`t see anymore the dialog "There`s X days until Windows dies", but it will still be there. The only way to prevent that IS by uninstalling mayor windows updates until FEB, DISABLING WINDOWS UPDATE, and installing a loader.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
