I successfully taped the sensors but it'll only spin discs when I remove the top half of the plastic, exposing the internal parts to get dirty. Also, when it attempts to spin a disc with the top on it sounds like an internal component rubbing against the cover?

my guess is that the tape is causing the discs to get stuck. I had a problem like this with my xbox 360, when I changed the dvd drive shell. in that case, it was the magnet in the drive getting stuck on the roof of the compartment. it took a little fiddling to get it just right, so that it wouldn't dislodge when I put it back together.
It was the tape blocking the switch mechanism on the cover, had to reapply it. Thanks for helping me again, I'm quite grateful.
