Ok, my Japanese N3ds has not been used in so long that I forgot what I did to it. I know that I was still using gateway back then and something is triggering the exploit at startup, as I get the static screen before the home menu. I want to convert this to bootstrap, but where should I start?

Should I wipe the sd card? Buy a new one and start over? It had a 32gb card in it, so I could go bigger this time...

I won't be using gateway anymore. Going all cfw on this one...although, I'm pretty sure the firmware is 9.x...its been a good long while since I used it. Or, maybe the emunand is 10.x

Last edited by nickerous,
gateway can work on emunand 11.6 if you update using sysupdater and leave several files.

I messed around with a friend's system the other day that had freeshop on it and it seemed so much easier than the old gateway mess. I'm thinking about ditching gateway all together.

You probably have menuhax. Try booting without the SD card in and if the home menu shows up normally you have menuhax.
You can then insert your SD card with the 3DS still on and change your theme which will wipe menuhax.
Then just follow https://3ds.guide/get-started as normal.

If you have any GW saves you'd like to keep you should install this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/gateway-save-export-helper.465503/
BEFORE doing anything else and export all the saves you'd like to keep. Post #2 has a slightly faster/easier to use version and instructions are included in the archive.
If you don't have a CIA installer to install it with you could simply use the .3ds version of FBI from the .zip at https://github.com/Steveice10/FBI/releases/ with your GW.
This can be done after installing B9S but then you have to make sure to keep your emuNAND and not follow the "move emuNAND" part of the guide otherwise you won't have a <=11.2 NAND to boot GW on anymore. It's best to do it first so you don't need to worry about that.

Ok, so I finished the guide, but forgot about emunand until I had already started the finalizing setup step. How can I make sure my sd card doesn't still have an emunand on it? I did the cleanup sd card step, but my computer shows 9gb used on this card ANF I have literally nothing installed on the system. No games, anyway...

copy all the files off the SD card and put them on your computer

load GodMode9 and press Home and goto More and SD Format
you can choose to have a emunand or not

that will repartition the SD card, and format it as FAT32
then you can copy all the files back onto it
