Hacking Second Wiimote Can't Connect When Playing DKC:R

Basically the title says it all. Whenever I try to play multiplayer on donkey kong country returns, the second wiimote cannot connect. It's very odd because the first time my brother and I played the game, everything was fine. However, from the second time we attempted to play and afterwards, the second Wiimote would never connect. Multiplayer works fine on all other games, just not this one. We've tried connecting the second Wiimote in the Wii menu, which allows it to connect, and then tried loading the game, but as soon as we load the game, it disconnects.

I'm using Neogamma r9 and have softmodded my Wii using the Modmii guide.

EDIT: I've also tried using the red sync button on the Wii and a different set of controllers but have had no luck. I've even tried changing the batteries.

I also had this problem when I got the game for Christmas. After you select your game file on the main menu there will be a choice to play two players mode. When you click on this then you will be able to connect the second wiimote and be able to play with a friend.
