Hacking SD card reader questions

Since many say the included one is trash, i decided to buy one myself, however i dont know much about these things.

is this one reliable? Transflash is microsd right?

My R4 came with the metal card reader and I have had no problems with it. I have used it tons of times.
Transflash is microsd yes.

Yes transflash is microSD. Looks like a decent reader, but it's quite expensive for just a USB reader :S. The one that comes with the R4 should be enough though - they've mostly mixed the reader problems so it's much rarer to receive a dodgy card reader.

Yea i think $15 is too much too. Anyone with the new batch readers have any problems

im using the black reader and never gave me problems

i use the black transparent one with little lumps and its worked fine for months. it lasted longer than my R4 did

i put it through the washer AND dryer. it still works.

also, am i supposed to format the microsd card before i use it?
Is there any to do/not to do things i should know about microsd cards. and how to back up saves?

To anyone who has that reader, is it neccesary to install the transfermate program, what does it do anyway?

no formatting necessary. nothing to "not do" really, pretty self explanitory.

and u shouldnt need to install any programs. unless ur on like...windows 95
