Is there any way to take screenshots on Wii? I never knew if Wii was capable of handling anything but the game itself.... (like background processes and such)

Thank you :)

Hello.:)

A very good Question.
I see you a have a great Wii U Knowledge,so maybe the Focus on the vWii will be a good Idea.

I think on the Wii a Solution is to connect it with an Analog Video Capture Device on the PC.:)
Unfortunately it is very "hard" with Windows 10 because many Tools/Application are no longer support the good, old Analog Hardware like Pinnacle Products....

So maybe a Windows 7 PC will be a good Choice.
I do not have any Knowledge of Mac OS/Linux if they still support Analog Devices, but I think so.:)

Thank you.:)

I do it with USBgecko and Wiird Debugger. but very few people have one.

For games, Neek is a good alternative. Or maybe dolphin?
For homebrew, some have that feature integrated (USBloaderGX press c+z)

I don't think SD gecko can take screenshot.
With USBGecko you have Wiird Debugger running on computer and looking at console's memory in real time, you can freeze the game, edit memory, read/write/dump/etc.

The SD miss that interactive feature, the game can't do the buffer backup to SD by itself without an external request.

Wifi/TCP gecko wouldn't be possible (unlike on WiiU), even for homebrew. USBGecko use EXI bus, I don't think network would have access to all console memory the same way.
and it wouldn't work at all on games as there's no background OS like on wiiu.

I did a little research for that device and is not selling anywhere.

I've seen some EXI to SATA devices, would a modification from that works?

How does the Sneek solution works?

I accidentally took a screenshot of the Homebrew Channel using a WiiMote while testing an SD card.
I certainly can't remember how I did it, or if it was even possible.
But after putting my SD card from the Wii to my PC I noticed a picture of the Homebrew Channel on the root of my SD card.

I didn't know HBC had a screenshot feature.
some homebrew do have that with button combination to initiate saving to SD.

Sneek work the same way than other homebrew, checking the data in video buffer's addresses and saving it (raw, while other homebrew first convert it to jpg or png). when using neek, you then have to use a picture converter.
humm, I thought I had that tool. something like "ypbpr convert" ? sorry, I forgot correct apps name.

Screen shot :
(disk-based games only) press B and 2 in game on first wiimote and it will create a RAW capture of the frame buffer on root of usb in Uneek+DI Rev140

YCbYCr2BMP.rar : from crediar
-CMD Prompt app that converts RAW pics to BMP format, if you want to use a PC to view snapshots instead of the built in Wii Sneek Menu RAW snapshot viewer
-YCbYCr2bmp.exe raw.bin fancy.bmp

What do you mean with the disc-based game only? Doesn't work with USB Loaders?, and also.. Sneek is avery complex program.. to my understanding this is basically an emulated NAND... so in order to take screenshots i will need to boot into EmuNAND all the time right?

no sneek/uneek/neek20 is a sort of 'master' emulator faking the wii nand and playing unwrapped iso's ,,, so usbloaders work within sneek too.
Puneek  ...puneGXS is the usbloader you can use with sneek loaded.

bootmii autoloads sneek fast as preloader loads usbloaderGX/wiiflow or whatever.

disc based games ...not channels , not sure if the feature went on to include anything else.
but if you play games that got copied from disk (downloaded) you can do screenshots ingame.
you can have a scroll mennu of disk games and covers right on the main wii screen.

i been tryn to 'sell' *neek to anyyone, emunand on 3ds,switch wiiU and wii is really the best feature

sneek being used to make a screenshot of the *neek overlay menu so you can select or dump your games from usb or sd

guess the screenshot mode worked nicely without a disk based game playing .

pick your games from that dialog and they show up in the disk channel. theres covers too in overlay menu

old pic on an old hdd from sept2 2009, been a long time since i wanted ingame screenshots without using dolphin
