But then there is a big black border around the edge of all the other apps :( Any way around that?

I set it so that all the apps and games appear the right size, but then the Wii Menu and Miiverse are too big and don't fit on the screen.

When I change the scaling settings on my tv, the Wii Menu and Miiverse look perfect, but everything else has un ugly black border around it, so it doesn't fully solve the problem.

Could just be your TV. I have no idea what you're talking about as I don't have that problem at all. Everything looks great on my TV

Just set your scaling settings to "best fit" or "adjust to fit screen" or whatever it is called on your TV, then open Miiverse and there should be something called "screen size" in the settings, which you have to adjust to fit to your screen. You will also need to adjust it for some other apps.

EDIT: Btw, that's what I had to do to fix the screen size issues.

I think you need to go into your advanced configuration options and turn off overscan, not the widescreen/fullscreen scaling thing.
HDTVS have post processing features that cause small amounts of lag due to the image being processed before its displayed. Also these features make the image color, contrast, and quality worse. One common feature is overscan that cuts off part of the tv, another is fake "dynamic contrast" when you could just turn the real contrast settings up. Before adjusting my friends where skeptical, After adjusting my friends TVs they all where stunned by the difference in image quality, Sound Quality (even the audio settings have strange features) and response. My brother was even going to buy a new TV but now he feels like he has a new TV. So I recommend people try tinkering with there settings, try turning suposed "features" off and games get better.
