What exactly is so horrible about that? It was your own responsibility lending it to him. Anyways, I don't think you can fix that with sandpaper, that'd just scratch off the rubber on the pad.

Just keep using it regularly, it'll eventually regain some of it's shape. That's of course if it's just dented, and not actually cut.
