Hacking Saves before and after trainers?

Dont chastize me...

I wanted to use it to kill a boss.

anyway.. I had to download a clean rom, patch with the trainer, patch with the loader, then put the save back. It shows my progress then when i select the file it freezes and buzzes? any ideas?
