ROM Hack SAVE FILE QUESTION

Hey guys! I am an extreme noob when it comes down to CFW Switches.
I just recently had mine HB'd

Abut an hour ago I purchased Pokemon Sword on nintendo store. I want to create a backup file so I could PKHEX but everytime I open Checkpoint or Edizon my game does not show up?
Is this because I purchased it digitally through the normal switch boot?

What can I do to be able to back up a save data to allow me to PKHEX?
Should I actually purchase the game card?
Doing this, could I boot my switch in HB mode, Insert Game Card, and then Back up my file? Or will it not work?

Use the JKSV app and and choose DEVICE.
Did you also finish the game before saving ?

I have not finished the game completely since I just purchased it. Will I have to do that?
