I don't understand. Why would people be excited to see Kid Icarus again? Why not another Ice Climber game instead?

That game belonged in that era. No point in making a sequel.

Because Kid Icarus was Metroid, Mario, and Zelda wrapped up together into awesomeness. Though the possibility for a new game to be good is absurdly low, those who care aren't in high demand, and those that don't have different expectations.

Ice Climbers was part of Nintendo's "arcade" series, that had little point other than points.

the difference is that Mario and Zelda were both extremely successful while Kid Icarus was just a meh game it was fun 1 time through then becomes a good dust collector.Nintendo went ahead and continued making successful Mario and Zelda games.

Kid Icarus may have been an average game, but regardless it's a franchise that has potential. My vision of it personally is creating a sort of Zelda-meets-Mario type of action-adventure-platformer in the 3-D realm. The franchise has only two games under its belt (the original game and a GB game) and there's a lot of leeway. Just because it wasn't nearly as fantastic as Zelda or Mario in the olden days doesn't mean it can't have great games nowadays. It doesn't need to draw on its past.

If anything, Nintendo should make a WiiWare type of Kid Icarus game.
