Future upgrades. If he's not planning on playing VR games or using 4K, he won't really need any more horsepower. From what I understand, this'll be a rig for video editing first and gaming second, so the focus is the CPU.
Yep. I have 8 different consoles and handhelds for gaming. I may dabble in some VR eventually, but this has been conceptualized as a editing/production build. Hence an upgrade to a workstation card(s) later down the line.

The product key on this copy of 7 has already been used. It's just an install disc. But if I have a valid key for 10, will it upgrade?

I have no idea, to be honest. Never dabbled with upgrades as they tend to screw with the registry, I only do clean installs.

I saw the "leaked" benchmark comparision between intel i7 7700k and ryzen 1700 on gta v game. Not sure if it's true or fake, the intel beats ryzen easily.
I guess your priority is a editing pc, I think it's perfect because for multi core use, the ryzen is great.
I would wait to see other benchmarks.

You could get a brand new Win 10/Pro key for around 28usd

How will I create a bootable USB with only the key though? That's where I'm stuck.

I want Win10 because everything will likely be optimized for it. Official licenses are a lot less hassle than bootleg pirated copies. I've seen friends go through days of troubleshooting trying to install Elgato drivers on bootleg copies.

Well, I already purchased the RX480. I suppose I can tinker around with it for a bit

Don't worry about it. 480 is a good card. Ignoring gaming benchmarks because they don't allign with the view of Nvidia>Amd is just fanboy drivel.

Nothing wrong with wanting to go legit, but something else was wrong there or it was some dodgy hacked up version.

Windows10 activated by one of the various toolkits is just a legit unmodified win10 being activated the same way volume license copies are (reaching out to a server every X days), except that server is locally run as a service. There's no difference between it and a legit copy.

Microsoft allows you to download a Win10 iso, buy a valid key from a website like kinguin and simply use the key when asked. I did this. He did too-

If you attend university, you may even get a free Windows key or 10. I know I got a bunch of Windows and Windows Server keys cuz of it. My PC is also running Windows 10 Education, which is pretty much Win 10 Pro, which I got from university too.

I see. That's what I need to do then.

Yeah, I'm planning on using this for Adobe Premier and Vegas Pro. I just did my financial aid packet, so after I finish registration I'm doing just this!

I think my first video project on this new build should be about the new build project and my experience in it!

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
