Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers.

Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated.

Interesting.

I wonder if this will look like an attempt at copying its competitors' motion-based gaming gimmick, or if it will feel more natural.

Fake, the player hold a "normal" controller in this video xD
Nah seriously I'm not finding that strange, sony was always copying others and always will too.

Not being a hater, I actually love the PS Vita, but they copy a lot with the PS move and PSP.

What the fuck are you talking about? OH MAN THEY RELEASED A HANDHELD WHAT A BUNCH OF COPYCATS.

I don't know if the motion control thing is real but a successor in 2012 doesn't seem to be THAT farfetched.

I agree with you, though I hope it's not true. I REALLY don't want motion control in my Playstation games.

they seem to have made it inbuilt bcz they want it to be portable to a certain extent (my opinion)
maybe the shipment date is 2012 christmas but still thts still too early for me to understand.
maybe they are looking to compete against wii u since games will use its controls and the devs will not find a console that can allow the same as the wii u.
hence games will be console exclusive to wii u, they might want to fight it

..? Anyone can release a handheld. You just didn't get the point.
Notice how every PSP comes out shortly after a DS.
For example, there was that DSi with the camera and whatnot, and the next thing you know, Sony's got it too in their new PSP.
And then they got that PSP with the two parts (The go).
The above example may sound like a huge load of Nintendo fanboyism or maybe hatred towards Sony, but we've got different opinions. No I'm not a Sony hater, I just somewhat "dislike" Sony. That is all.

There's opinion and then there's just saying random shit that makes absolutely no sense. Just because Sony released a handheld and different iterations of it doesn't make it a copycat. It's a completely different beast than the DS. If it was a dual screened device with a touchscreen then it'd be a "copycat". But it's different specs, different games, different controls.

Releasing in the same launch windows =/= copycatting.

What? i dont see how a pspgo copies a ds at all, it doesnt fold IT SLIDES, like you know a slider phone.

Why would they release a successor when the ps3 is doing great right now? I think this is BS.

Don't really care at all, this good be true because when Sony claimed that "We are not bothered about Wii U" they actually meant the opposite, because the new tech Wii U uses is kinda intriguing and may lead gaming to a whole new level, in short not-so-sweet words - Sony is scared.

I think you don't get how things work in companies.

Or it could be because people are retarded and they like new shiny things and when a new shiny thing comes out, other companies want to release a new shiny thing as well to sell more shiny things.

Basically video game console sales are based on the obsession for shiny things.

That's how Call of Duty became popular, so yeah.

Definitely true.

Even the mobile market is the same, it's all about the Apples and the iPhones

Pretty much the whole technology market is about the obsession for shiny things.

I just want original quality games, I know some "games"can be fun on a toilet....
So in that respect I could care less about a new console.

Do you mean "couldn't care less"?

I don't see why bulit in motion control is such a shock, they did it with the ps3, does everyone remember the sixaxis they put in every controller?

They're probably just going to add a gyroscope this time, i can't really see a huge change in the controller (other than bumper guards)

I can actually somewhat believe this 2012 launch window, but just remember the ps3 will still be supported even after the ps4's launch, just like the ps2 was. Remember the ps1 came out in 1994, the ps2 came out in 2000, and the ps3 came out in 2006, do you see a pattern?
