Rumor: NGP Getting PS2 Classics Download Service?

PS2 games will soon be available to download on PSP, according to a fresh rumour from the Official PlayStation Magazine.

The latest issue of OPM UK reports in its Rumour Machine section that "a new service launching soon" will see titles from the Metal Gear Solid 2 and Ico era going handheld.


So far, PSOne has been the only Sony home console to see its titles released for download on PSP.

Sony last month revealed why some PSOne classics will never make the transition - because they're too buggy or complicated to port.

We like the sound of a PS2 Classics PSN service a lot - with God Of War 2 and GTA: San Andreas at the top of our wishlist.

I think they may have gotten the name mixed up and mean the NGP, not the PSP.

But it would be pretty nice if true since the PS2 has an extensive library of games.

I can play Front Mission 4 and 5 again, hell since the rest of the core series are PS classics (I bought FM 1, 2, 3, and Alternative already), I'll be in line to have the entire core Front Mission series on my NGP. I want this.

The article clearly says "PSP". Now that's weird, because the PSP isn't powerful enough to emulate PS2 games. They mention that only "ICO and MGS2 era games" get an re-release, so apparently these could run on the PSP.

I thinks PS2 games won't get rereleased till the release of the NGP. It could be used as a trump card for the launch of the NGP

I would agree that they probably meant the NGP, as the PSP isn't capable of handling the processing the PS2 had, even if the game was attempted to be ported using PSP-specific hardware.

If it is the psp, then it'll be ports not emulation XD I'm agreeing they made a mistake and it's NGP instead

I'd be more interested in all the Armored Cores and Gundam games on the NGP. I haven't really played a Front Mission game.

I agree with OP. It will be NGP.
There's no way they are porting games from PS2 to PSP.
They tried to port SW battlefront 2 and it sucked (IMO), it felt empty.

I expected this for NGP anyway. I can play KH1 and 2 and Chain of Memories

Hope they don't cost more than £10 :s

I would care if they weren't already 100% playable on an actual PS2. Not everyone still has their PS2 (I've got no working controllers.) They might have broken etc. I'm also interested in games that I never got the chance to own.

There is here which is the OP's own addition but on the source there is only a PS2.

Definitely, also wouldn't mind MGS2 on there and some of the less profitable PS2 games (like Ico, SotC, and Psychonauts).

Really hope this is true, the PS2 kicked so much ass. Having some of its games on-the-go would be great.

Do you guys remember the time when Sony was contracting people who understood about PS2 emulation? Maybe (I said MAYBE) this have to do with this...

Least I got 3DS for this year.

psp games, ps2 games and of course NGP games sounds great. Never got the chance to play psp and ps2 games so maybe this'll be my chance. year 2012 urghhh
