So I tried the pcsx_rearmed (PS1 core) and it works fine. It also supports CHD format.

-Speed doesn't reach 100%. There are some frequent stuttering
-With some optimizations (frameskip ON, VSync OFF, dithering OFF) you can reach 100% but only playing 2D games (Rayman, King of Fighters...)
-On 3D games: speed is maybe 70-80%.
-I couldn't figure out how to enable rumble ?
-Also I've read here loading time is shorter but how? I get same loading speed as the good old PS1.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this project.

I've not tried this yet in my wiiu, but I presume that PAL games run significantly better than NTSC, because PAL only need 50pfs to reach full speed.

Do you mean samples? they are sound files that can be added to mame.

@ploggy Thank you, I say what I have... I put the game bakubaku.zip in the folder roms... In the zip of the game I have just the files : mpr17973.5 ; mpr17972.4 ; mpr17971.3 ; mpr17970.2 and fpr17969.13
In the folder samples I have nothing, and I don't know what I should do, I am a noob with Mame :& Can you help me please ?

Google mame 2003 reference set and download all the samples from there then place them in the samples folder on your wiiu sd card ;)

Hello,
I did what you said, but that didn't work, I don't understand why... I checked the files inside samples and I didn't find Baku Baku... Did I do something wrong ? If yes, how should I do ? If no, is there an other solution ?

Hmm, perhaps the issue isnt samples related then, I'll check here and see if I can fix it. :)

Thank you very much, I'm glad you are here ^^.
Ok, looks like the game doesn't have audio on PC Retroarch as well so its not a WiiU issue, plus the game runs really slow on WiiU so even if it had sound it would be unplayable :/
I know you probably wanted to play this version specifically but there is a Baku Baku for Master System and Game Gear too which will run fine on WiiU. :P

On my Wii U this game runs as fast as my original game on my Sega Saturn... I take the first link on my search on Google for download the game on Mame, the size of the file is 5,66 MB and the zip of the game has just the files : mpr17973.5 ; mpr17972.4 ; mpr17971.3 ; mpr17970.2 and fpr17969.13...
I have also this game on my Sega Game Gear, I can play two players with two Game Gear and two cartridges, but on the Wii U with the Game Gear version I cannot play two players...
I see that in the Master System version there isn't two players mode...
(I'm a fan of Sega and Nintendo, and I would like to have all on my Wii U).

Ah ok, I was using the Mame2003 Plus Core, its really slow on that Core. Seems faster on the normal Mame2003 Core.. but still only 28-34fps

Can you turn on the fps counter before starting the game?
Its in Settings>On-Screen Display>On-Screen Notifications>Notification Visibility>Display Framerate - ON
The load Baku Baku and post your fps :)

I did what you said and I show you what I have... I don't understand why you have not the same thing I have... Maybe it depends on which rom we had download...

Thank you for posting your results :) I always use the MAME2003 Plus rom set, but I tried the exact rom you said and I still get the same poor performance?
Are you using the MAME2003 Core or the MAME2003 Plus Core? also are you using the latest version of the Core?

EDIT: what CFW are you using Tiramisu/CBHC/Mocha?

I use for this game Mame 2003, I show you which version, I use CBHC... I don't know if it's the last version or not, I have player with Mame since two week, I'm a noob (I wanted to play Daytona usa but the Hornet car appears then disappears and so on... I play Super Puzzle fighter 2 turbo but with FinalBurn Alfa and it works perfectly, it's the same game on Sega Saturn, Playstation 1 and Gameboy Advance, fun fact we can play two players with just one Gameboy Advance... And I play Baku Baku Animal but what a pitty there is no sound, I like the music of this game and there are more fun with the music T. T ...).

Holy Moly that's an old build on MAME 2003 lol looks like perf degraded over time with later builds of MAME 2003.
Sound is working fine on newer versions of MAME but sadly with WiiU we're stuck with MAME2003. :(

Try the Mame2003 Core from here, https://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/nintendo/wiiu/latest/

Last edited by ploggy,
The Mame2009 core was basically a one and done Core for WiiU, it hasn't been updated since 2017 :/
You can try and ask the Retroarch guys to add a newer MAME to build for WiiU. MAME2016 or just the Main MAME.
Add to this one: https://github.com/libretro/mame2016-libretro/issues/53 (different issue I know but the result would be the same) :)
Or ask for MAME main Core to be added here: https://github.com/libretro/mame/issues

Actually if anyone else can add to the MAME2016 issue above too that would be great! if we can get that Core added we can possibly get access the Mess Cores too ;)
there was mame2009 and mame2010 way back

Yeah, problem is that the mess component wasn't added until something like mame 2016, so we'd need at least that core added.
Another issue is the later the version of mame the worse it will run perf wise, but man I'd love to get mess running on wiiu, if it was we'd have access to alot of systems (mileage may vary) but we could potentially have..
https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/6076834 these.. some may work lol

Would love to one day get a Philips CDI core just to play the awesomeness of Burn Cycle. Truly one of the greatest games of all time. Such a pity very few people know about it. Also a shame the PC port of the game was bloody awful.

Would also be cool to play the terrible 3 Zelda games and the surprisingly good Hotel Mario on an actual Nintendo machine.

ok I now get the speed you get! I deleted the retroarch.cfg and the mame2003 opt file in the config folder and that seems to have done the trick :D
Good news is you can get rid of that ancient mame2003 build and update to the latest.. the speed will be the same and you wont have to wait 30 sec for the rom to boot ;)
