I do like the Cambridge Latin Course.

Caecillius, Quintus, Grumio the cook... the fact I can remember names all these years later and can't remember the names of characters in a book I am presently halfway (and enjoying) through says most of what I care to know there. Albeit that was done over some years where this book will be back on the shelf before long.
