Hacking Removing 3DS updates by Formatting System Memory

Will formatting system memory (deleting everything) reset the 3DS back to it's original version?

Thanks for the support everybody, and to answer most of your questions, YES, my 3DS was 4.5

Also, I've told them many times not to update, but they would just ask me "why?" and when explained, they would not understand. They probably think they know what's right for me, and updated because they think I don't know anything about technology, BUT NO I NOTICED THAT IT WAS UPDATED, AND I HAD A CONFRONTATION IMMEDIATELY. Not only that, but THEY'RE YOUNGER THEN ME.

Maybe I am just going to make you mad by saying what I am about to say, but... I think you're being too harsh with your cousin... Sure, he made something really stupid, but , hey, you can always find another device to play, but friends and family are unique and irreplaceable. Don't value your belongings more than a friend... ^_^

Because this is not a judicial case perhaps?

By the wording of that, I could picture someone buying a bunch of 3DSes and desperately opening them to find out which has a 4.5 fw version.

yeah, so? You have the right to return 30 days after purchasing.

Sadly, that will not work. Once the firmware is updated. It's updated for good til a new firmware comes out. (Learned that from the hard way from changing my Wii's region from US to JP a few years ago).

I guess if it was that simple (and possible of course), people would do that all around the world.

Meh, oh well. Sucks that you can't use the Gateway now, but at least they didn't brick your console. You can still play retail games (which for the price of the Gateway it's almost better just to buy retail games anyway, especially with compatibility with newer titles being non-existent at the moment).

I think you could have just wiped sd card and deleting all wifi profiles and you could have be safe, as i notice a bunch of 50mb files on sd card when it prompts me to update

if thats your line of thinking wtf are you even doing on this forum
Well, piracy and hacking and different things, but yeah, that was an unnecessary reply to this topic.

Anyway, like people said, just wait for another hack, I don't know if you already had the gateway or were planning to buy one, if you already have a gateway you could either sell it and buy some games or keep it and hope for it to be compatible with the latest firmware.

I have this huge problem and what happened was this:

Okay, so I never update my 3DS but its connected to the internet, so it nags me every day, and I always say no. But then one day, I went on my 3DS and saw it it was already updated, even though I never eve pressed yes. I soon found out that it was my cousin. See, I let them play games on my 3DS. I've owned it for a really long time, and now, it's freaking ruined. THE WORST PART IS, THAT MY COUSIN HAD NO REASON TO UPDATE IT, AND THEY CAN MAKE INTELLIGENT DECISIONS, THEY DON'T EVEN CARE. I even asked, and all I got in response was a silent shrug. My rage is SO HIGH RIGHT NOW.

SO now, I'm wondering if formatting system memory, will reset my 3DS back to it's former version, or this the system update permanent and I'm screwed forever because I was actually nice and let somebody play my 3DS.

Just tell them to refund you a new one or tell them to buy all 3DS games you want 'coz you can't have Gateway working for you now...

Ah no entitlement like the nintendo community. You let him use your 3DS, and did not tell him not to run the update. Running the update is a completely normal thing that most people would do. You sir are the only person at fault, accept responsibility for your own actions, don't pawn them off on others.

You're absolutely right! Everyone stop lending your consoles

I did tell them not to update. But what made me really mad wasn't the fact that they updated, but the fact, that they didn't care. When I asked why, all I got was a silent shrug, and then they pulled out a phone and started playing minecraft.

Also, something similar has happened in the past, this isn't the first time.

That is why I dont share my 3ds... In the event I did share my 3ds around and it got updated without my knowledge, I would be all paranoid thinking that the culprit who updated my 3ds out of spite or doing "gods work" for Nintendo.

Why would they care? Nothing happened to their stuff. If this was my cousin I would have ripped that phone from their grip and smashed it to pieces, then said "Now we're even".

Are you sure your cousins don't work for Nintendo? j/k.
