So will I need to upgrade to a n3DS or if I'm patient enough, the o3DS will have perfect full speed emulators? I did get QuickNES to work but the circle pad doesn't function, not even on the emulator's main menu or any of the other Retroarch emulators. You can only use the control pad to navigate the menu and select the ROMs and configure the options. I hope someone patches this soon.

Load up the QuickNES core: Settings > Input > User 1 Analog To Digital Type = Left Analog

It should hold for all 3DS RetroArch cores as they share a config file.

Thanks, it worked!

But why does it freeze up sometimes when I select a ROM? Upon loading the 3rd or 4th ROM, my 3DS locks up, why?

I guess I'm better off getting a 3DS with 9.2 so I can install custom NES/GB/GBC/GBA/GG/3D Classics CIAs, so I don't have to worry about these hax and their speed issues or system lockups.

That's just how most/all homebrew crashes. (and why people are wanting a 'crash to homebrew launcher' feature)

Screw that, I'm just going to get a 3DS w/ 9.2 so I can install some custom injected NES/GB/GBC/GBA/GG/3D Classic CIA files so I don't have to deal with any of these technical speed, graphical/sound glitches, or crashes! So much easier and I don't have to worry about these "hax" or Nintendo patching them like they did with TubeHax.

A local Disc Replay sells them for $99 but I'm going to have to wait until I can afford one. I'll test one out and see if the system settings says if the firmware is at 9.2 or lower. I had a similar issue about 10 years ago with my old Sony PSP. One time I updated it to 1.51 and my mother had to take it back so I could get one with 1.50 again.

Can someone tell me what I'm supposed to do to use a custom theme and this hax?

I've got a 9.9 n3DS, I'm using a paid theme (Boo theme) that can be found on that ISO site.
I've got Ironhax to install themehax.

You can also extract that theme using the extdatatool. After that you need to compile your own version of themehax to use it. Send me a PM, I can do that for you ;)
I just need the extracted BodyCache.bin/body_LZ.bin, the BgmCache.bin/bgm.bcstm and ideally your version of the menuhax.lz file themehax nornally uses when you install it. (otherwise I need to compile every one there is xD)

Guys, I'm worried I might have seriously fucked my 3DS up. I attempted to compile homemenuhax with a custom theme following the instructions posted by @AnukWolf earlier in this thread. Everything seemed to go fine up until I tried to install it. When I tried to go out of the homebrew launcher to the home menu I just got a completely blank screen, like the system is off, yet the power light is still on. I did a hard reset by holding down the power button.
When I tried to turn my 3DS on again, the same thing continues to happen. The power and wireless light is coming on, yet nothing is being displayed on screen. Has anyone seen this before, and is there a way I can recover?

Your 3ds is fine you just have a corrupted theme on the exdata of the sd card. Remove the sd card and power on your 3ds. On your pc go where your theme exdata is located and delete it.

Or better yet, after removing the SD, turn on the 3DS, put the SD back in, then select a theme.

Turn off your 3DS, take out the SD card, and turn it on. Try re-inserting the SD card and use the unmodified installer.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Just like you said, I was able to take my SD card out and select a different theme, things are fine now. Now I just have to figure out what I did wrong compiling the files :(

I didn't have that kind of problem yet with my themes, only software crashes in the home menu itself. But maybe it's the same problem.
Did you try this trick yet? As far as I can say, this helped with my problems.

Yeah, my uncompressed theme is 1,146,880 bytes definitely divisible by 4. I used something called wwcxtool to decompress the body_LZ.bin file, hopefully I did that correctly. I just tried the install again with the same result so something definitely went wrong. Is it possible to only compile the US payloads rather than all of them? I imagine that would cut down on the time a lot.

Could someone who got custom themes working and can easily do it again please do a black basic theme for me or any of my custom themes from my signature?? I have a new 3ds us on 9.0. You'll be my hero!

You have to use lzss3.py from repo to decompress body_LZ.bin

@Garci98 this may be a dumb question, but how how is lzss3.py used? Tried running it as a normal script (./lzss3.py) with my body_LZ file I want to decompress as the argument, but this just returns a bunch of crap to the terminal window. I tried reading through the code but I'm not very experienced with python... :/

python lzss3.py body_LZ.bin > body_LZ
