the instructions are pretty simple, build rom with the "shady" tool, extract the romfs, rebuild rom with the more acceptable makerom, im just hoping someone else steps up to work on makerom to fix whatever it is that its doing wrong when rebuilding the romfs.....as it works fine on the VC games, but others.....not so much, seems that's the only thing holding back the (sort of) legitimate route of going about things now......shame applestash is off the case he seemed to actually be making progress (even if it was "hacky gateway support")....better than no progress whatsoever, especially considering gateway and MT are the only public ways of running rebuilt roms/homebrew anyway.

I used this tool to decrypted monsterhunter4G, and then do some unimportant log string literal patch on code.bin, then compress -> merge back into exefs.bin with section hash fix -> xor -> merge back to mh4g.3dz with exefs superblock hash fix
sure my 3ds hangup after mh4g started with classic animate, the upper screen became black and lower one show me error occured. maybe it bypassed softcore check but failed on deep verify.

You still want the tools for repacking the romfs correctly? Didn't you read that I'm open for discussion through PM?

did you recompile decrypted files with makerom, or xor it back and put into original 3ds file with new hashes and rsa signatures?

I used my own tools. makerom didn't have a full recompiler at the time I showed that picture. I didn't xor it back with the original xorpad. There's no need to use xorpads once the rom is decrypted. I used the zero key for that rom (and fwiw since then I've been using the zero key on all of my rom dumps).

thanks for reply. I will try to make a merge tools that do same thing.
1 fix section hashes in exefs because I chaned code content.
2 encrypt all plain bin with both 16byte zero key/iv (or 32byte key?), using aes cbc cipher.
3 write encrypted contents back to original rom file, with right offsets, and take care available space or add an enlargement feature.
4 update exefs superblock hash and romfs superblock hash if their superblocks changed by hashes/element sizes. (3dsexplorer show one but found two in binary.)
5 should I update some undocumented flag on NCSD fields to tell gateway it's a 0's key rom?

did I missed some step?
maybe I need to recalculate rsa-2048 signature for NCSD/NCCH headers using gateway's modulus/exponent key? they can't be zero.

yeah....that i had gathered, but i had a quick test the other day and that didnt work....all other games work fine i just assumed it was down to 7.x encryption flags or something......idk maybe i just messed up somewhere

How about some texture editing? I'd like to get their faces more faithful to their original designs.

reuploaded a new ppf patch on muh site btw.. its now 20 40 times smaller, lol..
(thanks to gamesquest1 for pointing out the issue with ppf size and stuff :3 )
