Gaming region free?

I just got a USA ds and was wondering if I can play japanese & european games on it without any problems. i know with the wii games it sometimes has updates and will brick the wii is ds like that too?

No really, it's fine. There's no region protection on the DS.

Correct, you can play any region DS game, well except for Chinese region games with no problems or fear of ruining your system.

The Nintendo DS is one of the very few game consoles that are not region locked.

actually, there are 2 regions for the DS.
china, and rest of the world.

chinese games have more complex characters than a normal DS supports, so they use an upgraded one.
this means you can play all games on the DS except the chinese.

The chinese DS, iQue has support for all DS-roms

For all intents and purposes though, you would want to import other english games and possibly Japanese ones. If you want to go all region-free-crazy, get a iQue from china. But for everyone else you'll be fine.
