Sorry to (more than likely) beat a dead horse, but I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere..

Will an original (purchased on release night) ntsc wii system + wiikey run imports or backups of imports?

If not, is there a better device that will?

Kedest's answer is pretty much covering all bases. The thing is your question is a little vague

.

ntsc wii system

Could also be NTSC JP or NTSC USA --> which means either JP/PAL games are imports or USA/PAL games are imports

. Regardless compatibility isn't perfect.

my bad, tis a US NTSC system....wasn't the answer i was hoping for, but what can you do.

heres hoping the wiikey will run the original import of smash

SSBB? That doesn't run on any modded wii except for D2CKey, and perhaps D2Pro (the new chip that isn't available yet). The only way to play it is to remove your chip, or I guess use a switch to deactivate.

All just rumours. Just wait until the game is dumped, only then we will really know.
