Hi, I'm going to purchase a Japanese 3DS XL, and intend to setup A9LH and change the region to EUR following this tutorial.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-region-change-japanese-n3ds-not-xl-ll-emunand.411006/

I'm familiar with the usual downgrading and setting up A9LH, but I have two questions since this involves a region change.

1: The guide specifically mentions changing the emuNAND region. If I want to use updated SysNAND, is there anything stopping me changing the sysNAND's region besides the brick risk? (Which is irrelevant with A9LH)

2: Are there any other complications that could arise from mixing A9LH and a region change?

Thanks

From what I had read. Both SysNAND and EmuNAND need to be the same region or it will cause it to brick.

Why change region at all? It is not worth the risk now with regionfree build-in and Simple CIA Converter to create regionfree CIAs

True, I just wanted to find out if it would cause any issues. I wasnt going to bother if it did, but if it didn't I would just to change menus and such to English. Thanks.

you can region change fine, it's not too hard, much easier than a9lh.
there are guides here, search

The A9LH process involves flashing a hacked emunand to your sysnand, which will absolutely brick your console 100% if the emunand does not match your real sysnand's region.

What you could do instead is do the A9LH process will will leave a hacked JPN sysnand on your system, then use it to boot into a EUR emunand, which is perfectly ok.

But you will not have a EUR updated sysnand, and because of this it brings to question why you'd bother with the A9LH process at all since you would still be running an emunand all the time anyway.

The two best options would be to skip A9LH and just install an emunand of the region of your choice, or as others suggested, keep the JPN updated sysnand which would be fully capable of launching out-of-region titles.

you can region change your sysnand region fine... i don't know why you think it's 100% brick.
have you done a region change lol?
anyway, i would region change after getting the otp...

I've region changed an emunand. Last I knew region changing sysnand wasn't possible, but I am obviously behind in times

i wrote about it in my region change poc early last year, it's not new, you just didn't know.
(no offense!) :)

I've done JPN to USA on my A9LH. I followed Plailect's guide but initially it had incomplete files but it seems he has updated the files, so it should work better now.

There is a risk of getting banned from region changing. But then again, this is just speculation and rumor from people that got banned with region changed 3DS.

The eshop does not work on region changed systems. That means you have to manually download and install all of your game updates.

Well.... it can but it's super complicated and requires having an O3DS with the region you want, NTR, system transfering, and a bunch of other stuff.

So yeah, it doesn't work.

i thouht it was possible with a sd card trick thing, but i heard it doesn't work on n3ds.
but, yifanlu released cosmo3ds, that is supposed to help, yes? :)

Cosmo3ds is the last step of the very complicated process.

After the NTR hacks, system transfer, and the 100 other things you have to do the eshop will "work". Originally you still had to use NTR debugger and run a few commands every time you wanted to access the eshop. EVERY TIME. With Cosmo3ds you no longer need the NTR debugger to connect to the eshop but you still have to do everything else.

The sd card trick only works on O3DS sometimes. I spent about four months trying every method the was suggested in these forums. I have got nothing to work for the N3DS. Yifanlu's process may work but it's definitely not for beginners and if you ask her for help you won't get it. Actually she said that she has forgotten most of it.
