Hacking redNand and system config tool

Hi everybody,
i'm a newbie and maybe my questions seems stupid to you, but i 've google for days and can't find the answer or there are too many different answers that confuse me. Maybe someone could help me...
I wanna install game with dlc/update in USB extern HDD. For that I need redNand with signatur Patches. Can I just put an blank SD card in Fat 32 in the Wiiu and boot in loadline.ovh or wiiubru.com/go and let it do the job ?
And what is system config tool ? Do I need it at all ?

You can do the same in sysNAND with signature patches, you don't have to install redNAND if you only want to play eshop-only games/DLC/VC games. Saves you a lot of space on your SD card too + VCWii game compability.
