Hi,

In a few days I'm getting second Pokemon Gold for my 3DS and I was wondering for how long code can stay unused? Does it has some expire date or I can use it as long as server for eshop is online?

Also second question, I think I'm going to install it on my second device but I don't have account on eshop there. If I'm not wrong, I'm still able to download and install game without account, but in a case if I format device, will I be still able to redownload it or something?

The card you get the code from will have the expiration date on it. With Pokemon events, it's usually a good 6 months before the code expires (Celebi for example is good until October 31st of next year (2018)) so that's almost an entire year. I assume the games would be the same.
