Short story, jailbroken PS3 (and console banned) died with the YLOD. Currently have no reasonable way to attempt to fix it or get it fixed.
I got the disc stuck inside out but it won't do me much good without the data.

So is there a way to recover any data from the HDD directly via the PC?
Or is it just a lost cause without trying to find a way to temporarily fix the YLOD?

maybe this is a late reply but yeah i was in your shoes
i had a ps3 YLOD and all the search i could find was that the internal hdd isn't accessible without a key extracted from it while the console works
the key is the "eid root key" which is different from one console to the other, so you must get it from your ps3
if you dont have this key from when your console was working, you can pretty much forget it... the only option is to repair it\make it work temporarly (some people have luck with the shity oven methods, however i believe that damages it more than anything)
if you can't make it work or repair it, you can move on...

Figured as much. Was hoping there has been sort of hacking miracle that breaks the encryption.
Too bad my options for getting it fixed are extremely limited and pretty much makes it questionable if it's worth the effort.
RIP PS3 gaming I guess.
