    Eversion
This is a game I've personally enjoyed a lot. As it is there are two different versions of it - The Steam version featuring improved textures and then there's the free version which should be pretty much the same game with the only obvious difference being the graphics and minor changes between the levels.

At first sight it may seem slightly childish - it looks like a cuddly little platformer, but as the game progresses you'll soon realise that you were wrong. I myself got the Steam version after a recommendation from lilsypha and while very skeptical at first I soon realised that this was one hell of a game. The game is not one of the longest ones, but if you do try to reach 100% in the game you'll soon notice that it takes far longer than you thought it would. All in all I'd say this game was well worth the €4 I spent on it and I'd gladly recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting platformer.

If you liked monkey island, try the sequel.
    You should also try Myst.
I'm not sure if these are under 500mb... But i'm almost sure that their sequels are not.

Well you might say Transformice has some puzzle elements.
Also Actionfist, Streemerz (Kinda like Bionic Commando), Don't Look Back (Made by the VVVVVV people), Sam and Max: Hit the Road, Dark Void Zero and Captain Forever.

    Edit:
You might be able to find some decent games on IndieDB too.

    More games:
Offroad Velociraptor Safari (Requires Unity Plugin), Minotaur China Shop (Requires Unity Plugin), Karoshi, Pandora's Gearbox, Spelunky, Tasty Static (Skyroads remake) and Igneous.
