this makes me scared...

it's the gyroscope.
there's a thread in here already about it.
search next time sweetheart.

Mine has no rattling whatsoever.
Yes, it probably is the gyroscope, but it should NOT rattle.

I noticed some kind of rattling too, but I found out what it was. I held down (as in: duct-taped) every slider and button on the 3DS and shook the 3DS afterwards. And ta-dah: no more rattling.

I assumed it was a pedometer separate to the gyroscope, all pedometers make this noise.

Take out the stylus and try again. My stylus makes a bit of a rattling sound when it's in the 3DS, along with the aforementioned pedometer sound.

This is most likely (or hopefully) the case. At one point I noticed a rattle when I tilted my 3DS forwards and back, but determined it was the stylus rather quickly.

The gyro sensor is in the bottom screen, I tested it with Dead or Alive at the title screen. If I tried to move the upper screen nothing bottom yeah.

It is your stylus. I had the same problem, like they said remove it and try it again. I think the original stylus that came with the 3DS is useless. I use my stylus that came with the accessory packet I bought. It still rattles but not so much as with the original stylus.

hope this helped a bit.

If it still forth-comes that it rattles. Call Nintendo they may know what the issue is.

It's a combination!

I was in a hurry so just wanted to say it was normal and type the least letters.

Possible rattling things

-stylus
-the inisde parts (the meters, above mentioned)
-Sliders, my dsl sliders for sound rattle
-L or R? (very unlikely)
