Hacking R4i 3DS Update Question

So here's what i'm wondering:
i already updated my r4i 3ds sdhc card's kernel and updated it through wifi on a friend's ds lite so everything is good to go and it works great.
But, if i were to update to the latest november (11/16/12) kernel that just came out, would i have to do the whole update process again with another ds?
my 3ds is on Ver. 4.4.0-10 U everything is up to date and working fine

in other words, wil my cart still work even if i erase everything on it and update the kernel? or would it be blocked once again and have to update everything all over?

Firmware updates that determine flash cart compatibility are stored on the flash cart itself once the update is applied, not the MicroSD.

Yup, after the update has actually been run, the file for it on the MicroSD isn't needed anymore, as it was just the installer. Welcome.
