Homebrew Quick question.

I have 2 3ds (one from launch another is the xy xl3ds) i currently have ironhax on my xl but i want to update for games and stuff so would it be a good idea to update both (the launch one doesnt have the youtube app) and move everything to my launch one?

It would be easier to judge if you simply tell us what is the firmware version on both.

The old ds is on 9.4.0-21u (doesnt have youtube on it tho)

9.4 has firmlaunchhax unpatched, so why would you tell him to update? 9.4 has a way better chance of a kexploit than with the new 10.0 encryption crap.

Op, you should definitely keep your 9.4 3DS on 9.4, and I would recommend to update your 9.9 3DS.

You can still play on a 9.4 3DS.

For the games that do, he can use his 9.9 (updated to 10.1) 3DS, unless they're downloadable.

Not all games require updates.
