Hi all,

Hopefully someone can help me with a small issue I'm having. I've currently got a 1tb HDD connected to my wii running fine with cfg usb loader. I'm giving this HDD away so I've copied the contents of my backup partition to a partition on another HDD. The new paritition in question was formatted as NTFS, but I reformatted to FAT32 with wii backup manager so as to match the source partition, then just copied the whole lot across.

The problem is that when I connect the new HDD to the wii and run cfgloader the wii just reboots. Am I likely to have missed something when I copied the stuff across? The new HDD has been used to run games from in the past, so there should be no compatibility issues there. Do I need to reformat the whole HDD again?

So I found a workaround for this by putting the usb loader files on an SD card, then just using the usb drive for the games. Not ideal as I still don't know why the wii isn't picking up the HDD initially, but it'll do for now.

I suspect that my right USB port doesn't work anymore, so can I set USB Loader GX (or any USB loader, if I don't have the choice) to load on the left USB port instead of the right one? I'm... pretty desperate right now since I can't play ANY non-WiiWare/VC game (the disc drive is messed up too), so I seriously need help.

If my right USB port DOES work, what can I do to solve this? I've tried anything from updating cIOS to using many loaders to trying another HDD (both are working on the PC, both used to work on the Wii).

I just got a black Wii that includes new super mario bros and the super mario galaxy soundtrack. I'm wondering what is really possible on here in terms of modding, playing backups, etc. Specifically I'm interested in playing wii and gamecube backups and what kind of modding i'd have to do to achieve this. soft-modding is preferred but if there is a hard modding option, I'd like to know.

I'm running USB Loader GX on an old 250gb external hd formatted to WBFS. I got a new larger HD that I want to switch to. Should I format it to NTFS instead of WBFS? If so, why? Will GX still pick it up the same or will I need to update it or switch loader softwares?

Use FAT32. All homebrew works with FAT32, but only a few apps work with NTFS (and of those that do work with NTFS, not many work well). Only loaders will use WBFS.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but to use usb loaders the files need to be on a wbfs partition on the HDD

wrong

The games can be stored on wbfs, fat, ntfs or ext2/3/4.
The loader can be stored onthe same but not wbfs.

Some loaders or channels might not support all these options.
Most supported and therefor recomended is fat32.

There is no best, it's personal preference. There are three popular loaders; Configurable USB Loader, WiiFlow, and USB Loader GX. I like Configurable USB Loader the most.

Format the whole thing as FAT32 and you can put all your stuff on it.

Yeah. You can either re-rip them, or transfer them with Wii Backup Manager.

As ISO's? Or wbsf? And wouldn't I have to make a wbsf folder for that?

WBM will automatically convert your games to wbfs files. If you don't have a wbfs folder, it will make one for you.

I have them in wbsf format just on my PC computer so all I need would be a wbsf folder on the external hdd? Or what's the names of the folders that should be on the external hdd?

Just use Wii Backup Manager. It will handle all the folders, covers, etc.

You do not ned to place them manually.
WBM already did that for you.
