Hardware Questions about the Wii Speak

I'm trying to help someone get their Wii Speak working while playing Animal Crossing City Folk online on Wiimmfi through USB Loader GX. But for some reason no matter what I try she can't get it working. She bought it used online and it didn't have the code in it for the Wii Speak channel. So I was wondering if putting in that code and downloading that channel was a requirement to be able to use the Wii Speak in games. Does anyone know the answer to that?

The service that handled Wii Speak is shut down with the rest of the Wii online services. As far as I know the microphone isn't useful anymore unless you can get it to work on a PC.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Wiimmfi supports voice.

Wiimmfi does support voice. At least for Animal Crossing City Folk. I use it all the time with other people when I play. I've never had any issues with it but this one person I am trying to help just can't get it to work even though everything is set up the same. The only thing that is different is that I used my code and downloaded the Wii Speak channel before the nintendo servers went down and she got her's used without a code after the shutdown. I was wondwring if that might have anything to do with it. My only other idea is that the Wii Speak she bought is broken.

You said you think it can be used on a computer. Do you know how I would do that? Like do I need special drivers or can I just plug it in? This way I can have her at least test out the Wii Speak and rule out whether or not it is broken. Thanks.

I didn't know Wiimmfi supported it. Maybe she's running it on a cIOS that doesn't have support for it?
According to WiiBrew AC:CF came with IOS38 and IOS55 updates on the disc to support the microphone. Maybe those are stubbed or old.

As for PC use, it looks like you have to take the mic assembly apart and solder in an RCA cable.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look at her syscheck and see what those IOSes say for her Wii. As far as using it on a computer I guess that is not going to work.
