Will a DVD R work on a videonow color?

99% sure it was custom sized CD-Rs that it used.

Nope. The VideoNow uses standard red book audio CDs containing specially encoded video tracks for the player to decode. They are slightly smaller than regular sized discs and thus requires modification to get them to fit.
