Hacking Question abouut Modding

Im new to hacking the Wii and Ive read the directions on modding a Wii, I was just wondering if using a micro SDHC 4gb card is good for using
to mod the Wii? I have the adapter for it to make it a SD card but I dont have a real SD atm so I wanted to know if I could use this as a replacement?

And also after installing the homebrew channel, can I just start loading the loaders into the Wii to play back up games? Or do I need to do something else
before that?
