Hacking Question about updates

I havnt updated my wii in a long time now, I think I only updated it once in its lifetime and disconnected it after that.

My Question is that im thinking about modding my wii and wondering if i need to update first and then install or install then update?

Also if you had to choose one which would be better Wiikey or Cyclowiz

You dont need to update your wii to install a modchip.
In fact, having older firmware might be better becuase newer wii firmwares may be able to detect modchips.

If i were to update do I install first or Update first?

I installed first then updated through the internet and i had no problems.

Just to clarify this: there's no Wii update that detects modchips yet, so you can install one and then update or vice versa with no problems whatsoever.
