Earlier today I was at my local thrift shop and bought a used 2DS. It is the clear blue EU version, probly from the saaphire Pokemon game bundle or whatever. It doesn't have the Pokemon game on the SD because there is no SD. I formatted system memory before I learned this was a more rare console so I probably messed up the setup for the game from internal files, but there wasn't any CIA on the console showing the game...b/c Nin't would prefer load the game on to an SD that came with the console and there is no sticker on the back like my other US consoles with the serial code for the console. To find that out my only method would be to install CFW, but is there any other way to legitimately find a serial. Never had a foreign console. Maybe they don't have stickers to begin with? It wasn't gunky In That area, it was pretty much everywhere else, but that's a different story. Is there a way I can run install the game onto an SD w/o having to install CFW? Installing CFW isn't a problem, btw, I just didn't want to because I would know if I ever sold it to a collector even if I deleted the CFW after the fact.

No it won't be because it's never been connected to the internet I don't believe. Its on OFW is version 10.3.0 - 28 U. But it asked me to accept terms to use internet and that was even before I format it but in asked me to accept terms to use internet and that was even before I formated the system. What Nintendo would do was preload the game on to an SD card so you would have it on your system already and it would run from SD card I have a Mario Kart 7 2DS that did the same thing. But this one doesn't have the SD card with it so no game.

how do you know it's the EU version?

The USA got a release of it without a pokemon bundle
Says EU on the back. https://m.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-2DS-Transparent-Blue-console-Pokemon-Alpha-Sapphire-NEW-Warranty-/181577051449?epid=1636925243&hash=item2a46d5ed39 s%3Ag%3AsgQAAOSwabhUWMY3&_trkparms=pageci%253A1439324a-a0ef-11e7-b061-74dbd180aa15%257Cparentrq%253Ab282454515e0aa1306d0ba79ffd25eb6%257Ciid%253A4 same as this just no SD, serial sticker, box, nint literature(useless paper) stylus. Not to too my horn but that one in the link sold for $718.06 US equivalent.

here are the sold listings on your unit from the past month

also just fwi ebay sellers can change the price of their item after people have bought it (the people who bought it obviously get the price it was originally listed at)

Thank you Adeka, CFW it is then, plus it's probly a U.S. unit. Though, I doubt those are rare. Just realized the EU was about the battery. Same place and look as my 2DS mk7 bundle. Doh!

after some more googling it turns out the US release were not transparent, you 100% have a european 2ds (strange to find it in the US)

Edit: you can tell what any 3ds model/release is from the serial number

Well not necessarily. I've found it's come to U.S. as well, but mine doesn't have the sticker. The white one on the bottom of all 2ds I believe with 11 digits. So I won't know what region it was made for or the unique serial for my console alone. My original question remains unanswered still however. Any way to find that code w/o CFW and anyway to run a game from SD in a OFW console. I could look at my MK7 bundle 2DS console and inspect how it has the game written to it's own SD. It's also OFW.

have you tried to launch 3dsident via soundhax?
Good suggestion as soundhax is Homebrew enabling only, I believe if I'm not mistaken. So internal data isn't altered. Tried it on a red 2ds mk7 pre-installed version a while back, but couldnt get it to launch, the soundhax was continually giving me a system error. I shut it down, and and retried , but always failing but fw is 11.0.0-33u on that, so maybe that's why?? Though it shouldn't be Idk. I just remembered reading on 3ds.guide it will fail a lot. I'll try it tomorrow...err today. I gotta go to bed.

Edit: I now believe I was getting fail rates of 100% then b/c of my internet connection at the time. It was shoddy.

Thx used this last under battery cover to check suggestion. Excellent. As it turns out it's North American. I think I'll keep this one stock for at least a couple days. Thanks all who helped!

Normally if serial is missing and there's no adhesive residue I would think it's a replacement shell.
As far as I know, pre-installed titles are tied to the serial number. Even if you setup nnid. I've had to call Nintendo to get it attached to a nnid on a dead 3ds before.
