I'm sure its not possible or people would be doing it with games but i am still curious about why games cant be modded to see a game as online when its not? For example NBA 2K20 needs online to play career mode but its a single player experience. I don't know enough about this stuff to know how it works but there isn't a file or something that makes a game think it has a wifi signal when it doesn't?

I'm just curious how that works. Thanks.

I think it can be done but don't think anyone will bother doing that, as eveyone has wifi plus it can be complicated as it's not like it will need wifi to login and then you'll be able to play without any need of internet but it will need to synchronize all the time. Just imagine that the game is an online rpg without net, the game won't make sense.

I want to play to play Lord of the Rings card game that came out recently. But it requires online too...
My Switch is normally offline, but I add my Wifi to it once in a while to update the firmware, when Atmosphere is updated for that FW also. After that, I always remove the Wifi connection altogether.

But are you saying I could easily log on the LOTR Card Game server and play it, if I just blocked the Nintendo servers via DNS, or?

Don't think so, you'll get banned if you get online on a modded switch, and if you are officially updating a switch that has atmosphere and you're not using choixdujour then you've been lucky so far for not being banned and you will eventually

Thanks for the answer. I'm not updating while in CFW. Apart from burning fuses, I thought I was home safe when using CFW but booting up into OFW to update and then back into CFW after updating. Anyway, I'm not that worried about getting banned, actually, as I fairly sure I won't ever play online from that particular unit.

I'm more interested in if there's any way to play those online-locked singleplayer games...? :)

Yeah i wouldn't try to play anything online if you care about getting banned. Some games to me just make no sense locking stuff behind a online connection.

Some other games with examples of what im talking about..

Mortal Kombat - cant unlock anything
Trails Rising - cant use dlc or use any outfits/bike parts

I don't want to play the game online it would just be cool to make the game think its online to be able to unlock stuff etc.
