I don't completely understand you, but if you want to extract .bin files from a .nds file, use
NDS Editor (kiwi.ds made it)
search on filetrip

I think He (or she?) wants to open *.bin- files.
I have similar problem, but files from Mario and luigi: Bowser's inside story are *.dat- files...

opening .bin or .dat files? uuhhh...no I don't know any programs for that!!
but for extracting those you can use NDS Editor!

dat and bin are generic extensions across computing- no one tool will be able to do much with them.

I have not looked at the new harvest moon game but the rune factory and earlier harvest moon titles with nothing that complex (common pointer types and shiftJIS in the Japanese releases for text and if I recall correctly uncompressed or BIOS compatible compression for images and looking on other systems mapping and game logic was nice enough as well) and it a good bet on these series that nothing much changed down at the code level.

I just looked at it and it seems rune factory 3 is a little different than harvest moon.

It only has a utility.bin file which taxahan can extract while harvest moon is stuffed with .bin and .all files.

I should have mentioned that- utility.bin (at least on the DS) is (in every rom I have pulled apart) the wifi/download play binary/file bundle/"rom" part and has never had anything to do with the game proper.

As for what tahaxan (and the similar tools like crystaltile2 and Low Lines' The Console Tool) can extract it is a great little tool but I would not place too much stock in it- they are general purpose tools for pulling apart roms and if they have specs for a file type great. It is and this side of good AI always will be up to the hacker to figure things out.
