Hardware Question about external hard drives on jailbroken PS4

So I bought a 4 TB external but I realize that 3 TB would be enough and I can use the 4 TB on my PC. But I have nearly 3 TB of PS4 games already on the 4 TB. From googling I believe the only way to transfer from one external to another is copy a game from the external to internal first, then from internal back to external. My question is will the PS4 remember more than one external? I just don't want to lose all of those games on the 4 TB if I format the new 3 TB. Hope that makes sense.
