Hacking Question 3DS XL 4.3.0-10E

I currently have a 3ds with 4.3.0 and have a gateway on the way, i seen a few posts saying the lastest update on gateway (3.0.3 / 3.0.4) must be 4.5-9... is this true will i be able to use the lastest gateway beta on my 3ds 4.3.0 or will i have to update to 4.5 , if i have to update to 4.5 is it possible to update to it via a rom and not an actual cart ? as the only cart i have at the momenth is mario 3d land and nothing else.

4.X to 9.2.

My 3DS XL was downgraded to 4.2U and working perfect

I think a rom will let you update Gateway mode but it is said that you can't update through a rom.
So might aswell give an error.
